I felt like it didn't matter which detective did what, as they needed more personality or back story to grab my attention. The mystery of the missing girl was intriguing and had plenty of twists. The big reveal at the end was great but kind of out there. This book has gotten lots of great reviews, though for some reason I had a hard time really getting into it.

With a story that feels all too real,Close to Home is the best kind of suspense—the kind that sends chills down your spine and keeps you up late at night, thrilled and terrified. No one that attended the party can remember anything strange, in fact, no one can clearly remember her even being at the party. The father, Barry, works in construction and has until recently been very close and affable with Daisy, exhibiting that easy father and daughter connection. The mother, Sharon, seems a little neurotic with a strange maternal attitude and an obsessive vanity. The 10-year-old son, Leo, is distant and is obviously hiding something and unwilling to speak up.

I don't think I've ever changed my mind so many times regarding who the perpetrator was - so congratulations to the author for keeping me guessing right until the end. I'm not sure the ending was quite believable, but having been utterly gripped throughout, I'm willing to go with it. Fawley is an engaging character and, unusually in this sort of novel, probably the character with whom we share the most empathy. Fawley has lost his own son, though the details remain sketchy, and along with his Superintendent, we find ourselves wondering if he’s the best person to lead this enquiry. But there’s a certain something about him that gives us some confidence that there’s no-one better to be fighting Daisy’s corner.

One of my favourite parts is just how well Adam's police team worked, their absolute commitment to the case and how they support one another. This fast paced novel is certainly a page turner and features some great characters. 8 year old Daisy disappears from her Oxford home and both her parents are quickly identified as possible suspects.

Not in the way you may think, but it bothered me how she came across when she spoke. There were times she seemed her age, but more times than not she sounded like an adult. I felt it came out of nowhere and wasn't particularly necessary.

Having recently come across and enjoyed the 2nd book in the DI Adam Fawley series ‘In The Dark’, I hastily checked out the debut novel by Cara Hunter from my local library.

Close to Home is her debut featuring DI Adam Fawley, and her second, In the Dark, is coming soon. In this book, the 8-year-old girl Daisy Mason disappears from her parents's summer party. No one in the neighbourhood saw anything, not even the parents, and the detective is trying to keep an open mind in this whole situation, as someone is clearly lying. This is a fast-paced read that goes back and forth in time to before and after Daisy’s disappearance.

The media storm kicks into high gear and Cara uses this backdrop expertly in propagating an atmosphere of suspicion, blame and frustration, particularly with the public involved. This is a debut novel for this author and I have to say that she told a twisting tale with plenty of reveals as the story proceeds and that kept me reading and guessing. Close to Home by Cara Hunter is an intense psychological thriller that just buried itself under my skin and stayed there! The pace was electric – the clues and innuendoes horrifying. But the twist at the end – now I didn’t see that one coming!!
