The house almost catches Chowder, but he narrowly escapes, and he and DJ flee back to DJ's house where they spend the night watching the house. The only way to kill the house is to destroy its source of life; the heart. They conclude that the heart must be the furnace, as DJ realizes that the chimney has been smoking since Nebbercracker died. A disrespectful paperboy gets knocked from his bike by a boomerang newspaper.

DJ became more suspicious about the haunted house after he unintentionally gave Nebbercracker a heart attack which led him to believe that he is being haunted by the "ghost" of Nebbercracker. He became scared and frightened when he and Chowder were nearly eaten by the Monster House. While DJ and Chowder are still watching the house, Zee comes in and asks if they have seen Bones as he never returned the previous night. The boys realize that Bones has been eaten by the house after learning about the beer bottle, as the boys tell her.

The carpet comes out to get Chowder, and later DJ, but they escape. Chowder is first seen wearing a rubber monster mask and almost getting hit by DJ's parents' car when they leave town for the weekend for a dentists convention. Chowder paid $28 on a basketball and loses his basketball on Nebbercracker's lawn. Chowder wants DJ to recover it but DJ told him that it doesn't exist anymore.
Meeting Jenny Bennett
The trio see Nebbercracker dancing with Constance's spirit before she fades away. DJ and Chowder spy on the house but Chowder refuses to believe the house is possessed. The house wakes and is disturbed when it finds Chowder and DJ on its property. The carpet comes out to get Chowder and DJ, but the boys scared by the house's demonic appearance, run into DJ's house in fear. As the house tries to eat Nebbercracker, Chowder fights the house off with an excavator, causing it to fall into a pit.
As Constance tries to eat Nebbercrackeer, Chowder fights the house off with a back hoe, causing her to fall into a pit. DJ is given the dynamite, and he and Jenny climb to the top of a crane while Chowder distracts Constance. The trio see Nebbercracker with Constance's spirit for the last time before she fades away. Nebbercracker thanks DJ, Chowder, and Jenny for freeing him and Constance after 45 years of being trapped.

That night, children in their Halloween costumes are all lined up at the remains of Nebbercracker's house, where DJ, Chowder, and Jenny help him return all of the toys to their owners, including Eliza's tricycle. Jenny's mother Mrs. Bennett picks her up and hugs DJ and Chowder before leaving. Jenny explains to Chowder that the chandelier is the uvula and it stimulates the gag reflex and everyone has a uvula. Chowder endorses Tales From the Crypt and makes flatulence noises with his armpits.

One of the boards that make up the stairs dribbles the ball, putting a jack-o-lantern depiction on it, invoking concern in Chowder as well. Chowder is also shown to be resourceful, as he is able to operate machinery; this is demonstrated when he uses an excavator efficiently to battle Nebbercracker's house at the climax of the film. His only real flaw is that he is timid and gullible from time to time. Chowder and DJ argued in the film a few times as Chowder risked his life for DJ as he stole Cold Medicine for DJ for the plan to kill the Monster House and even arguing that they cannot call "dibs on a girl". Chowder is one of the 3 main playable characters in the video game, along with DJ and Jenny.
Chowder states that authority can be unreliable then makes a farting sound with his armpit, which Jenny doesn’t find amusing. Immediately afterwards, the three watch the house eat a dog and realize the house only moves when its unsuspecting prey gets close and decide to call the police. He is also a bright young boy who came to believe that there's something more in Mr. Nebbercracker's habit of taking items that ended up in his lawn and scaring away any children who get too close to his home and will do anything to get the bottom of it. Chowder, DJ, and Jenny also appear in the video game adaptations of the film. In the game, they have to explore the house as they try to find the heart. Nebbercracker returns from the hospital alive and well and it is revealed that Constance is the house.
